It was an ancient yet powerful kingdom and is the greatest monastic ancient city in the world. It is located 205km north of Colombo and has a magnificent collection of archeological marvels and architectural wonders that include a number of huge Stupas (Pagodas), ruins of royal palaces, ancient Buddhist masonries, ancient hospitals, enourmous tanks and granite statues.
